The Essential Skills
The Building Blocks of Education and Training
Technological changes and increasingly complex technologies require workers in the automotive repair and service industry to have strong Essential Skills. A closer look at the work-day reality of automotive service technicians brings this into focus. Hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles are becoming more common as auto manufacturers see the viability of developing these vehicles due in part to fluctuating gas prices.
As well, more and more safety related systems are introduced with each new vehicle model. Automotive service technicians faced with the prospect of servicing these new vehicles, will no longer be able to rely on what they currently know about vehicles and engines. They’ll need to read the product information manuals, understand the schematics, and use thinking skills to apply existing knowledge in order to continue to meet customer needs.
